Hiking with kids in Boulder is one of the reasons families love living and visiting here. The city has an extensive network of trails where children can experience creeks, wildlife, rock formations, wildflowers, and mountain views without committing to long or difficult hikes. Boulder has even been recognized as a great place for raising outdoor-minded kids, with numerous family programs through its Open Space and Mountain Parks system.
If you're hiking with kids, the best Boulder trails combine short distances, interesting scenery, shade or water features, and manageable elevation gain. Here are some of our local favorites:
1. Chautauqua Park - Bluebell and Baird Trail |
|
Moderate • 1.5 Mile Loop • 459 ft. Elevation GainThis trail is best for iconic Boulder views without a strenuous climb. The Bluebell-Baird Trail is one of the best-kept gems around the Flatirons. It sits within the trail network accessed from Chautauqua Park and offers many of the same beautiful views as the more famous Chautauqua trails, but typically with fewer crowds.
